042] Global Mapper - Changing Elevation Colors : Custom Shader

Image
Today, we will learn how to change the Shader to your desired colors using familiar elevation data. I am providing a suitable elevation dataset for this tutorial, so it is recommended to use the attached file. Attachment: 042-Custom Shader.zip (This is a safe proprietary data file for Global Mapper.) The compressed file contains DEM data and a .prj file. Open the DEM data in Global Mapper. [img 1 : Global Mapper DEM data loaded with Atlas Shader] It should be loaded as shown above. The currently applied shader is the Atlas Shader . Now, let’s add a new shader according to your preference. [img 2 : Selecting Add Custom Shader from the Shader list box] ...

037] Global Mapper - Attribute Editor: Layer Attribute Editor 02

Image
Welcome back to the Global Mapper tutorial series. In our previous session, we touched upon the basics of the Layer Attribute Editor. Today, we will dive deeper into more advanced ways to manage and edit your data attributes efficiently. Let's wrap up our look at the Attribute Editor (Attribute Editing Window). Open the file you saved yesterday and dock (stitch) the Attribute Editor window to the right side of your screen. I’ll skip the very basic tasks like selecting, deselecting, or deleting features and focus on the more practical tools. [img 2 : Attribute Editor docked next to the main map window] [img 3 : Selecting the Show/Hide Attributes menu] First, let's clean up our view by hiding unnecessary attributes. Click on the Show/Hide Attributes icon as sho...

036] Global Mapper - Attribute Editor: Layer Attribute Editor 01

Image
Until now, we have only covered methods for selecting and editing the attributes of registered objects directly using the mouse. Today, we will learn how to check and edit elements included in a layer as a list. This is much more efficient when dealing with large datasets. First, please download the sample file below. It is a shapefile (.shp) containing building data. Attachment: Building.zip (This is a safe proprietary data file for Global Mapper.) When you load the BD.shp file, you will see the building data as shown below: [img 1 : Global Mapper screen showing loaded building shapefile data] Until now, if you wanted to view the attributes of an object, you likely used the Digitizer Tool (pencil icon) or the Feature Info Tool . 054] Global Mapper - Exporting by Specifying an Area

Image
While looking back at my previous posts, I realized I had missed one of the most frequently used functions in Global Mapper: selecting a specific area and exporting it in the desired format. Global Mapper is perhaps one of the most versatile GIS tools when it comes to the sheer number of formats it can import and export. Because of this, many users utilize it as a conversion and editing stage before moving data to their final production tools. Let’s get started. First, please download the file below. It is a digital map containing building information. Cur_BD_2.zip   (This is a safe proprietary data file for Global Mapper.) [img 1 : Bandizip window showing contents including shp, dbf, and prj files] If you drag and drop the downloaded file directly into the Global Mapper screen without...
